David McGinley, Chief Executive Officer of Cammell Laird Ship Repairers and Shipbuilders and Atlantic & Peninsula Marine Services, has been shortlisted for the 2020 British Ex-Forces in Business Awards.
David is one of ten finalists in the Business Leader of the Year (Large Company) category of the awards scheme, which recognises the achievements of ex-forces personnel who are now excelling after life in the armed forces.
During a 25-year career in the Royal Navy, which saw him join as a Junior Marine Engineering Mechanic, Class 2 and leave as a Warrant Officer, David completed two tours of the Falkland Islands and a tour of the Gulf.
After leaving the Navy, David went on to forge out a successful career in business, joining A&P Group at the start of 2017 as Managing Director. In July 2018, he was promoted to A&P Group’s holding company as Managing Director of Atlantic and Peninsula Marine Services Ltd and in June was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Cammell Laird.
Under David’s strategic leadership, the last 18 months have been some of the most transformative in A&P Group’s history. He has consolidated and strengthened the business in core markets, initiated valuable sector and service diversification and put the group on a clear trajectory for significant future growth.
He has successfully united three previously disparate UK sites in Falmouth, Tyne and Tees and by giving all three sites the same working methodology, client-ethos and company culture, David has built a strong and unified workforce.
During the last 18 months A&P Group’s client base has grown by 20%, turnover has increased by 15% year-on-year and profit has grown exponentially as David puts a firm focus on delivering the “most efficient execution of contracts and giving even greater priority to clients.”
Following his recent appointment, Cammell Laird is now also benefiting from David’s expertise.
The 2020 British Ex-Forces in Business Awards attracted a record-breaking 500+ nominations. The winners in each of the 20 categories will be decided by a judging panel of military veterans headed up by Admiral Sir George Zambellas, former First Sea Lord and now chairman of several companies including Galaxkey.
David said: “I feel honoured to be shortlisted for a 2020 British Ex-Forces in Business Award especially in a category with so many inspiring and successful business leaders. Many of the skills and values I took onboard during my time in the Royal Navy have stood me in good stead in the world of business.”
The winners will be revealed at a gala ceremony on October 20 at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane.
